Durst Group: digital print natives

The first decade of the 21st century marked the arrival of a new printing company in Maringá, a city in the western part of Paraná state. Gráfica Caiuás was founded in 2000, with its DNA having always been focused on delivering quality printed materials to its clients. It's no coincidence, for instance, that the company's slogan became "We print quality for your brand." After all, the importance of ensuring the best results for products featuring client logos, who trust their services, is undeniable.

Initially, this commitment to quality was only directed at sheet-fed offset printing, primarily for the promotional segment. However, the success achieved through the philosophy of combining high print quality, excellent customer service, and respect for deadlines quickly led Caiuás to expand its market to other applications.

It was then that Caiuás identified a growth opportunity in the label segment, especially small and medium-volume labels with high added value.

"We outlined a strategy to 'go all in' on the label market with roll-to-roll production," says Rangel Rampazzo, director of Gráfica Caiuás.

This excitement, however, was not generated without studies and prospecting, including which technological platform the company should invest in, given the various brands and equipment available today for digital label printing. Ultimately, Gráfica Caiuás chose the Durst Tau 340 RSC, which has since been installed.

"There was a lot of research and testing with the most traditional equipment brands we have in Brazil," says Rangel. "The final decision was for Durst's technology and the Tau 340 RSC model for important reasons: first, Durst is a consolidated brand in the industrial UV inkjet printing market for labels; second, we analyzed the print quality, combined with the reliability of the structure and services here in Brazil."

Agility was another point that influenced choosing Durst digital technology. "Today, we face great difficulty with labor, and so we wanted an automated machine with quick setup that would bring us more profitability. We spent three years studying and analyzing all these requirements," he explains.

The Tau 340 RSC integrates the Durst Workflow system, which Rangel points out as a major differentiator. "It's the differentiator in prepress and file analysis. The equipment itself has a lot of technology and quality, but without an efficient workflow system, you don't achieve the expected result. The Durst Workflow offers agility and reliability to support all the features the printer offers, including important strategic data that can supply our sales area," he emphasizes.

Regarding the new business model debuting at the printing company with digital labels, Rangel highlights the commercial support provided by Durst Brazil, with training and guidance on applications and new markets.

With quality ensured by the high resolution of 1200x1200 dpi and a real productivity of 80 meters/minute, the Tau 340 RSC can be configured with up to 8 color stations (CMYK, plus optional orange, violet, green, and high-opacity white), allowing industrial-scale label printing with rich colors and covering almost 95% of the Pantone scale. At Caiuás, the operational model has the CMYK + white configuration and a productivity of 52 meters/minute.

"With this, we reach over 85% of the Pantone scale, which is sufficient for us to serve the markets we are prospecting," explains Rangel.
